TFC Spy strategy guide.
If you ever kill a spy, keep an eye on his corpse. Once he respawns, and until the corpse disappear, his dead body will change class skins and colors when he does, then assuming he respawns as a spy again you can alert your teammates to be on the lookout for a spy of the color and class of his corpse. (Submitted by Natbone).
Spies never hold anything but the default weapon for the class they are imitating so a teammate holding a non-default weapon for his class is not a spy.
speed medium health 90 armor 25 spawn / 100 max
weapons knife, tranq-gun, double-shotgun, nailgun grenades normal, hallucination
special disguise menu: change skin, change color, feign death
notes can uncover an enemy spy by touching
console commands include;
feign - make a little death noise and then fake death
sfeign - fake death silently
Also you can get uselful scripts for the spy, including an even more believeable fake-death script.
offensive tips!
-Take out sentries (two normal grenades this won't blow your cover to use them, so do it), but not wantonly. Coordinate with your team so that sentries are down when the offense attacks. Otherwise those Engy's will just make more.
Don't just nab the flag unless you're sure you have a sentry-free exit (and no engineer there building one) or some escorts. You will be uncovered when you touch the enemy flag and you can't feign death while holding it.
Change your skin type before entering the enemy areas (don't even go out in the open as a spy of any color, the enemy will be on the alert if you're spotted). Entering the enemy base with enemy colors will also often arouse suspicion (instead, try feigning in a corner and changing skin and color once inside the enemy base).
Change skin often while in the enemy base. The enemy will alert each other of what class is a spy, so changing can buy you time (and more sentry shrapnel). Make sure no one sees you suddenly change class, however. Feign in a dark corner before changing if necessary.
Don't try to be a Soldier, HW Guy, or Scout, people will notice the big speed difference (unless you're good enough to tap your +forward key at the right rate to appear to be moving at the correct speed , the jerkiness will look like lag). You can pull off a convincing HW Guy or a passable Soldier by holding +speed (walk). The really serious spy will bind keys to set his speed to match the class being played.
Throw gas grenades in respawn rooms or enemy-infested areas if no one is looking. They hate that.
Hang out with and befriend snipers, engineers, HW Guys, etc. You know get to know them, Pretend to be doing things, aiming, guarding, working for the team. Build their trust. Make them think of you as a good teammate (they may even leave you in charge of an important area!) Then knife them in the back when they least expect it.
defensive tips!
Disguise yourself as a popular offensive character of the other team and feign death near the entrance to the flag ramp. When someone grabs your flag, toss some hallucinogenic grenades, then suavely backtrack out and act like you're waiting for the grenade to go away. The flag nabber will at the very least hesitate, and as long as you don't act too soon, he'll soon present his backside for a beatdown. (Submitted by ElfofWar 2-10-2000).
Play offense. It keeps the enemy confused and irritated, and limits their offensives.
Tell your teammates what skin you are using, and if they still shoot you quickly feign death so they can save their ammo, or just stay away from them (NEVER take on enemy colors in your own base).
Lie in wait (feigning death) near the flag and knife potential flag-nabbers when they don't expect it (don't look around or they'll see your corpse move).
