Use a detpack to open any sealed passages into the enemy base as soon as possible.
Don't throw down more than eight pipes for a trap because dropping the ninth pipe will explode the first, then the next one will explode, so on.
If you're going to die, and you have pipes lying around (or you have timeto drop some) try to die when your enemy is near the pipes , your death with explode the pipes.

You can set detpacks to blow open passages and can pipe jump easily
console commands include;
+det5, +det20, +det50 set a detapck to explode after 5, 20, or 50 seconds (respectively) , must hold down the detpack key until the 'activated' message appears (four seconds)

If you can, Pipe-jump into the enemy base to get a great surprise attack position or quickly kill an annoying sentry gun.
Use the grenade launcher to clear rooms from around the corner.

Surround the flag or an essential pathway with pipes and just wait for the enemy to try to cross. But that an engineer's EMP grenade can detonate your trap.
Even better, fire eight pipes along EXACTLY the same trajectory, so they all land right on top of each other. Do this where you assume an enemy will come, the flag room is good. Then drop your excess ammo pack (discard) directly on top of the pipe pile, hiding the pipe bombs. Hide yourself where you can see the pipes. Wait for a greedy enemy to try and pick up the ammo pack, then BOOM! It's funny, and they won't catch on for a LONG time. Try it!
